Question:Can alcoholism be termed as a disease? Is there any treatment to eliminate it permanently?
Answer:Yes, alcoholism is considered as a disease. An alcoholic crave for drinks, loses ones control once he/she starts drinking and his body is totally dependent upon the drinks for his/her day-today activities. An alcoholic is always in an urge of large quantity of drinks. If an alcoholic doesn' t drink, he/she starts getting different symptoms like dizziness, anxiety or nausea. An alcoholic person continues drinking whatever the circumstances are- may it be family financial problems or health problems.

Alcoholism is a chronic disease, which affects the person' s whole life. Alcoholism can be hereditary or it could be due to external factors like failure in ones business.

Yes, alcoholism can be treated. There are specialized program for treating alcoholism which include both counseling and proper medication to the alcoholic. It helps him to stop drinking and return to normal life. But, the person taking the alcohol treatment program needs to have strong determination; otherwise he/she may start drinking again after falling under some unfavorable circumstances.
