Question:My uncle is above 65 and has been drinking occasionally since long. He hardly faced any major problem. But, nowadays, he is getting lots of health problem due to drinking though he doesn' t drink much. Can you provide some help?
Answer:When a person grows older, his mental and physical strength declines considerably. The body handling of alcohol also changes with age. The aging reduces the tolerance power and increases the health risk associated with alcohol.

Old people generally do not drink as much as the younger ones. Alcohol works differently in older people. At old age, even a lesser amount may create significant impact on health. Even a small amount can make them feel "high" causing various problems like falling down on the road, fractures and accidents.

Old people are generally on medication for various health problems. The combination of certain medicines and alcohol are very dangerous. So, it is advisable to ask your doctor before taking any medicine, whether it can be taken with alcohol or not.

According to some health institutes, people who are over 65 and stay healthy, the recommended consumption of alcohol is 7 drinks per week. But, it is better if you consult your doctor helping your uncle to stop drinking.
