Question:How alcohol does affects ones brain?
Answer:Alcohol affects the brain causing slurred speech, clumsiness, slow reflexes and so on. Only a few drinks can produce detectable impairment in memory. When you increase the amount of alcohol, the memory impairment reaches to debilitating situation causing serious mental problems. If you drink a large amount quickly with empty stomach a blackout occurs, when you forget the things for a time being or unable to recall events.

There is a close relation between heavy drinking and physical brain damage. The continued drinking causes brain shrinkage significantly, which is more than normal age related brain shrinkage. Moreover, the amount of consumption also affects the rate of brain shrinkage. The chronic alcoholic has smaller, less massive and shrunken brain than the normal ones.

The relationship between alcohol consumption and deterioration in brain structure is considered very complex. However, you can get functional and structural recovery to some extent, if you stop drinking and go for treatment.
