Question:My brother became an alcoholic after an unpleasant episode in his life. Now, he wants to move on and get rid of alcohol. But he hardly tries; and is not able to do so. How can I help him in quitting the alcohol?
Answer:It' s very good that your brother is willing to quit alcohol. First of all, your brother needs a good counselor, who can provide him guidance and support. The person, who has been drinking since long, it is obvious that he can not leave it in one go. He will feel annoyed or guilty, when someone talks about his drinking. They also have a very strong urge to drink, because their body has become accustomed to the alcohol. If they do not drink, they will feel lots of symptoms like weakness, anxiety or dizziness. You need to provide emotional support to your brother so that he can come out of this situation.

Search for a good treatment center, where your brother could be admitted for the treatment. The treatment centers provide good care and medication in order to help them from their alcoholic situation. Let him go through the complete treatment and even after the treatment, be vigilant and supportive so that he will not take alcohol again, if some unfavorable incident happens with him.
