Question:I am allergic to various antibiotics (penicillin, tetracycline and others). Is it life threatening if I take antibiotics to cure any disease if I fall sick?
Answer:Your concern is genuine. First of all, you need to confirm that whether you are allergic to antibiotics or just have intolerance for them. Certain tests are conducted to determine the allergy for antibiotics. If you are truly allergic to antibiotics, consult your doctor about this. Multiple antibiotic allergies are really frightening and if you are allergic to one antibiotic, you may be allergic to other closely related antibiotics.

Never take antibiotics on your own. Allergy to antibiotics is frequently caused by the overuse. Never use antibiotics deliberately. Let your immune system work for minor health problems as it is excellent in protecting our body from germs.

Antibiotic allergy can be treated by avoiding the particular antibiotic and giving another medicine, if your doctor knows your case properly. If this doesn' t work, you can go for desensitization therapy, where a small dose of medicine is given and the amount is increased slowly to make the immune system adjust with it.

In life threatening situations, antibiotics can be given to the person having allergy for antibiotics after pre medicating with antihistamines, corticosteroids, and other medications.
