Question:I fell on my right arm while running in the field. Since then I have pain and tenderness in my right upper arm. I don' t feel like allowing any movement over there. I am a right handed person, so you can very well understand my problem. Have I got some fracture in my upper arm? I have not visited the doctor till now. Please suggest.
Answer:It seems you have got a soft tissue injury instead of some fracture in the bone. You must consult a physician. Don' t take it casually otherwise your problem may aggravate without proper treatment.

Upper arm, apart from the bone consists of the biceps and triceps muscles and other soft tissues like nerves, tendons, blood vessels and connective tissue. The muscles and underlying tissues get bruised due to direct blow to upper arm. It may result in bleeding from the ruptured blood vessels which infiltrate the muscles or other soft tissues. Thus damage occurs due to soft tissue contusion and not by fracture.

You may apply an ice pack over the affected area for pain relief. A well balanced diet including extra protein and calcium will be good during healing period.

Sometimes Soft injury is worse than bone fracture as it takes longer time to heal. But, you need to have a thorough examination to determine the exact problem. Visit the doctor.
