Question:I have never been suffering from hemorrhoids till now. Recently I developed it during my pregnancy. Why are hemorrhoids more common during pregnancy and how to get rid of it? I will appreciate any advice.
Answer:Hemorrhoids are the veins around the anus that have swollen and inflamed. They are very common during pregnancy. Some women may get them for the first time during their pregnancy. And, if some one is having it before the pregnancy, they may get it again during their pregnancy. During childbirth also, one may develop hemorrhoids as at this time there is immense pressure on these veins causing them to be dilated.

Pregnancy makes women vulnerable to the hemorrhoids. During pregnancy, the pressure of the growing uterus on the abdomen causes the hemorrhoidal veins to become more dilated or swollen.

During pregnancy, women face constipation also. Constipation led them to put more pressure for the movement of hard bowel. This also causes or intensifies hemorrhoids.

The hormone progesterone raised during pregnancy also attribute to the occurrence of hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids caused by pregnancy are a temporary problem and mostly go away on its own. You may put some medicated ointment or cream with the consult of your doctor.
