Question:I am on heavy doses of antibiotics. I am feeling very depressed nowadays, since the time I started the antibiotics. I am nervous all the time and very fearful about the surroundings (though everything is perfectly all right). Sometimes I cry without any reason. Do these things happen to me because of the antibiotics I am taking because I have never experienced such things ever before.
Answer:Certain antibiotics may produce depression as a side effect. Though it has been proven that specific drugs may induce depression in the patients, the casual relationship between the antibiotic and depression is difficult to establish. The drug-induced depressions constitute a subgroup of post psychotic depression. Unfortunately, drug induced depressions are not recognized well causing therapeutic problems. It is suggested clinically that if a person is given drugs known to trigger depression, it should be monitored carefully.

You might be feeling depressed due to the side effects of the antibiotics given to you. You should immediately consult your doctor regarding this. Doctor might stop the antibiotic and give you an alternative medicine.
