Question:What does pain before I need to empty my bowels mean and what can I do about it?
Answer:A First, see your doctor to eliminate any serious underlying reasons for the pain. If you get the all-clear, start by gently increasing your fibre intake with fruit and vegetables, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding any potential food intolerances (wheat and dairy are common culprits). Try soaking a dessertspoon of flax seeds overnight in a glass of water and drink the lot in the morning. Another possible reason for pain could be some kind of infection in your digestive tract. A stool analysis test can check this out. Mucus in the stools can indicate inflammation in the bowel, which may be a response to a food allergy or intolerance.

I would recommend seeing a nutritional therapist, as well as your doctor, who can investigate these possibilities.
