Question:What' s your view on SAMe supplements?
Answer:SAMe, or s-adenosyl-methionine, is a body chemical that helps keep your brain and nervous system well tuned. In fact, as far as the chemistry of connection is concerned, SAMe is the master tuner.

Although the body can make it, many people find supplementing SAMe helpful. SAMe helps neurotransmitters - the nervous system' s chemical messengers - deliver their messages to the receptor sites. It can also aid a good night' s sleep and stimulate dreaming because it is one of the precursors of the sleep hormone melatonin. SAMe has been proven to be a good anti-depressant, and can generally enhance feelings of wellbeing and connection. It should be taken on an empty stomach, preferably one hour away from food. Start with a dosage of 200mg twice daily, but that can be increased to a maximum of 400mg four times daily, if needed. SAMe should also be taken with its cofactors, vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid.

You may find SAMe too expensive, however; and it is also relatively unstable as a supplement. A good alternative is to supplement TMG (trimethylglycine), the chemical from which the body makes SAMe, as it' s cheaper and much more stable. You need three times as much TMG as SAMe, so start with l,200mg.
