Question: | I don' t like the effects I am having from the pill. Is it safe to change from one brand of the contraceptive pill to another? |
Answer: | Your doctor may consider changing the type or dosage of the pill that you are on, and his/her choice will be determined by the problems you are having with the present pill. Different hormones can suit different women, and what is very good for one, may not be as good for another.
Irregular bleeding, headaches, depression, nausea and breast discomfort are common reasons for altering the type of pill.
If you are changing from one everyday type pill to another, you should finish the pack of the pill you are on at present, and then start taking the first pill of the new pack from the day you start bleeding. If you are using 21-day packs, allow seven days between finishing the old pack and starting the new.
It is often wise to take other precautions against pregnancy for the first week on any new pill.
