Question:At the age of 60 I have developed drooping cheeks. Can anything be done to prevent further drooping by massage or medicated creams?
Answer:Unfortunately there are no proven rejuvenating creams or youth pills available, but there are a lot of these advertised, usually at high prices, and they often advise prolonged courses of treatment. Buyer beware. On the other hand, there are some relatively simple surgical procedures available that will correct drooping cheeks, and droops in other parts of your anatomy. Discuss the matter with your general practitioner, who will be able to give you an idea of the type of plastic surgery that you will need, and the costs, because a lot of these procedures are not covered by Medicare or private health insurance. You can then be referred to a recognised plastic surgeon, who will give you greater information, show you before and after photos of other patients, and explain the risks of the surgery. If you are told there are no risks, again beware. Consultations with plastic surgeons are rebated by Medicare, and you are under no obligation to proceed unless you wish to. Most procedures require only one or two nights in hospital, and many are done as day surgery cases. You will never find out what can be done to help your appearance unless you ask.
