Question:What is the swimmer' s ear that children get every summer?
Answer:If you leave your hands in water for a couple of hours, the skin will become wrinkled and soft. The skin inside your ears is extremely delicate, and if water is trapped in the ear after swimming or showering by a narrow ear canal or wax in the ear, the skin becomes damaged and allows infection to develop. Very rapidly the patient will develop a painful ear, that cannot be relieved by normal pain-killers. Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops are the correct treatment, and the sooner treatment is started, the less pain and damage will occur.
