Question:I get a recurring itchy rash on my foreleg about 6 inches above my ankles. It settles with Sorbolene cream but recurs every few weeks, it seems to flare more after I play soccer. What do I do to get rid of it?
Answer:The most likely explanation is a form of eczema that is flaring because of exposure to something at soccer. Your bare shins may react to the grass, chemicals or fertilisers on the playing field, the detergent used to wash your socks, the matetial of the socks themselves, or any one of several million other substances in the environment. It is possible that only when you are stressed by exertion or excitement while playing soccer that you are susceptible to the particular substance. Using a batrier cream on the shins before a match may prevent exposure to the irritant, but generally, if it settles readily with a simple cream such as Sorbolene, no further treatment should be necessary, although there are medicated steroid creams that may settle it faster.
