Question:I have had a lot of funny turns lately, and all my doctor has given me is aspirin. How can this help?
Answer:Aspirin acts to prevent blood clots. Many types of funny turns in elderly people are due to miniature strokes in the brain. These are not serious, but cause you to feel strange and act peculiarly at times. If they ate allowed to continue, they sometimes lead to a full stroke. All patients with these attacks should be thoroughly investigated to exclude any tteatable disease before being started on aspirin. Aspirin in low doses has recently been found to prevent these mini-strokes, and often prevents large strokes too. Only one tablet a day is required, but it should be continued long term.
