Question:I have been prescribed a variety of tablets for my arthritis over many years. I believe that these are all classed as anti-inflammatory drugs. I never like taking drugs, but they do seem to help me. I would still like to know what are the side effects of anti-inflammatory pills?
Answer:Anti-infiammatories are used in arthritis and injuries to muscle, bones and joints to reduce the amount of inflammation. Inflammation is not infection, but is the redness, swelling and pain associated with damage to any tissue. Drugs in this group include Indocid, Brufen, Clinoril, Naprosyn, Orudis, Feldene and Voltaren amongst many others. They should always be taken with food as they can cause stomach problems in sensitive people. Newer versions such as Celebrex and Vioxx have far fewer side effects than the older ptepara-tions, and are just as effective. If you develop abdominal discomfort while taking these drugs, stop the course of tablets and see your doctor immediately. They may also cause sedation, and care should be used in pregnancy.
