Question:What is tenosynovitis, and how is it treated?
Answer:Tendons run inside a fibrous sheath in many parts of the body, particularly the hands and feet. Between the sheath and the tendon is a very thin film of lubricating oil called synovial fluid. Tenosynovitis is an inflammation of the sheath around a tendon, and usually occurs due to overuse or injury. Treatments include hear, anti-inflammatory tablets, physiotherapy, immobilisation in a splint, injection of steroids, and as a last resort, an operation to remove the sheath.
