Question:My daughter and I have difficulty in breathing after exercising regularly for 12 months. In our beginners aerobic classes we have to stop after a few minutes because of difficulty in breathing. Is there something wrong with us?
Answer:You probably have exercise-induced asthma. This may only present in certain circumstances, and may be worse if the exercise is in a dusty hall rather than out of doors. This type of asthma may be hereditary, so it is quite conceivable that both you and your daughter could have the same condition. Asthma can be treated by mouth sprays and other medications, and it may be possible for you to use a spray before exercise that will prevent the shortness of breath. You should see your general practitioner and discuss the matter further.
