Question:I am about to get married. How can I find out if i need a German measles needle?
Answer:Your general practitioner can order a simple blood test to measure your immunity against German measles (rubella). If it is low, an injection will be given to give you long-term immunity. It is important for all young women to ensure that they are immune to this disease, because if it is contracted in the first few months of pregnancy, it may cause severe birth defects in the child. All children should be routinely vaccinated against rubella at 12 months of age, and at 5 years of age by a council clinic or their general practitioner.
