Causes of Bruxism Commonly a sign of stress or tension, may be a nervous habit, or during sleep can occur with nightmares. Very common in patients with mental retardation. |
Symptoms of Bruxism Jaw moves constantly to grind teeth together, often to the point where a grinding sound can be heard. |
Tests for Bruxism None normally necessary. |
Treatment for Bruxism A mild muscle relaxing and anxiety reducing medication (eg. diazepam) is sometimes appropriate. A dentist hould check the teeth regularly.

Complications of Bruxism of its treatment Prolonged bruxism may cause permanent damage to the teeth. |
Likely Outcome of Bruxism Usually responds to medication, but may be persistent otherwise. |
