Causes of Hypoaldosteronism Numerous diseases may be responsible (eg. diabetes mellitus), may be inherited, a side effect of drugs (eg. heparin), occur after severe blood loss in an injury, as a result of brain diseases affecting the pituitary gland, after surgery for a tumor of the adrenal glands (which sit on top of each kidney), or may occur spontaneously for no obvious reason. |
Symptoms of Hypoaldosteronism Abnormal urine production and fluid retention. |
Tests for Hypoaldosteronism Blood tests show high potassium levels, and other abnormalities of body chemistry. |
Treatment for Hypoaldosteronism Specific types of steroids are given long term, and a low salt diet.
