Cancer involving the lip, tongue, palate, gums or floor of the mouth. Rare under 45 years of age.

Causes of Mouth Cancer
Smoking associated with most cases.

Symptoms of Mouth Cancer
Abnormally colored or firm patch, tender lump, a persistent ulcer or painful swelling within the mouth.

Tests for Mouth Cancer
Scrapings taken from the surface of the suspected cancer can be examined under a microscope.

Treatment for Mouth Cancer
Surgical removal or irradiation of the cancer.

Complications of Mouth Cancer of its treatment
Spread to nearby lymph nodes and other organs.

Likely Outcome of Mouth Cancer
Overall one third of patients survive for five years, but better with early detection.
