Causes of Nocardiosis The bacteria Nocardia asteroids, Nocardia brasiliensis, Nocardia farcinica and several other species of Nocardia. |
Symptoms of Nocardiosis Depends on site of infection. May cause pneumonia, cellulitis (skin infection) and lymph node infections. Abscesses commonly form in association with the infection. |
Tests for Nocardiosis Diagnosed by examination of sputum or pus. |
Treatment for Nocardiosis Antibiotics (eg. sulphonamides).

Complications of Nocardiosis of its treatment Abscesses may burst into adjacent organs to open up abnormal connections. |
Likely Outcome of Nocardiosis Usually good response to treatment, but risk of death in patients with seriously reduced immune response (eg. AIDS). |
