A very rare disease in which a child is born with fragile, brittle bones that break easily and heal poorly.
Causes of Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Tends to run in families in an irregular pattern. Varying degrees of severity are possible, and some patients are far more severely affected than others.
Symptoms of Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Children suffer multiple painful fractures that take months to heal. Other characteristics include deafness, a blue color to the whites of the eyes, spinal deformities and teeth defects.
Tests for Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Diagnosed by X-rays which show a typical appearance in the long bones of the legs and arms.
