Generalized viral infection found throughout northern Australia, in the NSW Riverina irrigation area, New Guinea, Solomon Is., Samoa and Fiji. |
Causes of Ross River Fever Virus transmitted by mosquitoes between animals (possibly bats) and humans. |
Symptoms of Ross River Fever Fevers, muscle aches, arthritis (particularly of the hands and feet), swollen joints, headaches, swollen tender lymph nodes, poor appetite, nausea, flu-like symptoms and tiredness. A rash occurs in some patients. Symptoms
worsen with age and children may be infected without having symptoms, but still act as reservoirs for further spread of the disease. |
Tests for Ross River Fever Diagnosed by a specific blood test. |
Treatment for Ross River Fever Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications to ease pain and remove the fever. Prevented by control of mosquitoes, insect repellents, window screens and protective clothing.
