Unknown. Overgrowth of small blood vessels.
Symptoms of Strawberry Naevus
Bright red, raised, irregular, rapidly enlarging spot that appears shortly after birth. Growth ceases by nine months of age.
Tests for Strawberry Naevus
None normally necessary.
Treatment for Strawberry Naevus
None, until at least the age of six years, when surgery may be considered.
Complications of Strawberry Naevus of its treatment
Surgery to remove nevus leaves a permanent scar.
Likely Outcome of Strawberry Naevus
Virtually all disappear spontaneously, completely and without a scar by the age of five years.
