Causes of Ulcer, Skin
Constant pressure (bed sore), injury, poor blood supply (venous ulcer), a cut or sore that is constantly irritated by scratching or rubbing from clothing and certain types of skin cancer that are left untreated. Sometimes mentally disturbed patients, prisoners and people trying to draw attention to themselves deliberately irritate an ulcer to prevent it from healing. |

Sometimes a biopsy of the edge of an ulcer is necessary to exclude skin cancer as a cause. |
Treatment for Ulcer, Skin
Covering the ulcer with a dressing that prevents irritation, removing excessive pressure on the area by regularly changing position or special mattresses or cushions, and special healing gels, plasters and dressings. Surgically excising a persistent ulcer and closing the defect by suturing or with a skin graft can be used in some cases.
