| Infection of the uvula, which is the soft tag of flesh that hangs down the back of the throat from the soft palate. |
Causes of Uvulitis Bacterial, viral or fungal infection. |
Symptoms of Uvulitis Painful throat, pain with swallowing, excess saliva production, enlarged lymph nodes in neck and a fever. |
Tests for Uvulitis None normally necessary, but sometimes a swab is taken to identify the responsible organism. |
Treatment for Uvulitis Antibiotics for bacterial infections, and antifungal lozenges or gels for fungal infections. All types of infection, including viral, eased by anesthetic and antiseptic gargles or lozenges, and paracetamol or aspirin.

Complications of Uvulitis of its treatment Uvula may ulcerate, and infection may spread to tonsils or other nearby tissues. |
Likely Outcome of Uvulitis Bacterial and fungal infections settle rapidly with treatment. Viral infections settle after a few days. |
