Tests for Ventricular Septal Defect Diagnosed by ultrasound examination of heart (echocardiography). |
Treatment for Ventricular Septal Defect Small holes may close spontaneously. Open heart surgery used to close larger holes.

Likely Outcome of Ventricular Septal Defect Usually good results from treatment, but if very severe, death in infancy before surgery can be performed is possible. |
