| Answer: | Only in exceptional circumstances (hot spa baths being one possibility) can genital herpes be caught by anything other than sexual contact. It may be many years from the time it is caught until symptoms develop, and it may be transmitted by a person with no symptoms of the disease. It may be that a husband/wife had premarital sex, and caught genital herpes without developing the disease, but later passed the virus that causes it on to their partner.
Medication is now available on prescription that will cure an attack of genital herpes, but it is essential to start treatment as soon as symptoms ate experienced.
