| Children who have significant intermittent pain in their legs and (less commonly) their arms for no obvious reason. |
Causes of Growing Pains May be due to softening of bones at times of rapid growth. There is a tendency for the condition to recur within the one family in successive generations. Affects up to one third of all children of both sexes between the ages of 6 and 14 years. |
Symptoms of Growing Pains A deep ache in the limbs that occurs between joints, and not at the joint. Often worse at night, and equal on both sides. |
Tests for Growing Pains No specific tests are necessary, but it is important for other causes of limb pain to be excluded. |
Treatment for Growing Pains Reassurance, paracetamol and heat packs.
