Inherited condition that occurs in one in every 25,000 people.
Symptoms of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 2
Type 2A: cancer of the thyroid gland in the neck, overactivity of the parathyroid glands (hyperthyroidism) and a high blood pressure producing tumor of the adrenal glands on top of the kidneys (phaeochromocytoma) (see separate entries). Type 2B: cancer of the thyroid gland in the neck, a high blood pressure producing tumor of the adrenal glands on top of the kidneys (phaeochromocytoma), Marfan syndrome, and abnormal nerve growth (neuromas) in the mouth, nose, intestine and other areas where a moist membrane lines a body cavity (see separate entries).
