| An inflammation or infection of the thyroid gland, which lies in the front of the neck. The most common type is Hashimoto' s disease. Other forms include de Quervain' s thyroiditis, Riedel' s thyroiditis and suppurative thyroiditis. |

Symptoms of Thyroiditis Patients writh suppurative thyroiditis have severe pain in the front of the neck, tenderness, redness and swelling of the gland. |

Treatment for Thyroiditis Suppurative thyroiditis: high doses of antibiotics and drainage of any abscess that may form. Other forms: depends on cause. Thyroid hormone supplements usually required.
