Causes of West Nile Encephalitis Virus spread from birds to man by a mosquito. Found throughout north Africa, the Middle East and southeast Europe. More common in children and the elderly. Incubation period three to six days. |
Symptoms of West Nile Encephalitis Fever and a rash are often the only symptoms, but in severe cases may cause eye pain, enlarged tender lymph nodes, dizziness, sore throat, joint pains, headache, neck stiffness, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, disturbed mental functions and disorientation. |
Tests for West Nile Encephalitis Tests on blood and the fluid around the brain are abnormal. |
