Question: | I have just started taking the Pill - what supplements should I take? |
Answer: | The Pill increases your need for vitamins B6, B12, folic acid and zinc. It is especially important to achieve optimum amounts of these, and you can do that easily with a good all-round multivitamin and mineral. (See Resources, page 483.) Zinc is important because copper levels tend to go up in Pill users, and zinc counteracts copper. You want a supplement that gives you at least ten times as much zinc as copper (if it has any copper at all). Drinking filtered water also helps because much of our water passes through copper pipes and can pick up some copper as a result. (This is particularly a problem in new houses and in soft water areas. The softer the water, the less the pipes get calcified, and the more acidic is the water, which means copper can pass more easily into the water. New houses have new copper pipes, with lots of rough edges in the bends.) |
