Question:I am concerned that my health may be suffering because I am not taking enough vitamins. What are the best vitamins to take?
Answer:Fresh fruit and vegetables. And yes, I am serious. There is no need to take any extra vitamins in tablet or other forms unless you are suffering from specific diseases, recovering from illnesses, or have a poor diet. Australians are brim-full of vitamins—we eat better than 95% of the people alive on this earth, and better than any population in history. All the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients required are available to use in readily obtainable foods. Some of us eat inappropriate foods and combinations, and no-one can support a fried food and soft-drink type diet, but rather than take the necessary vitamins lacking in this type of diet in pill form, munch an apple and chew a carrot instead. The vast majority of vitamin supplements taken by people go straight through the body in the urine and faeces, and merely enrich the sewers. There is probably quite a profit to be made by processing raw sewerage to extract all the vitamins it contains! Vitamins in high doses can be harmful to your health, and some diseases can be caused or aggravated by them. Be sensible and save money—have a fruit and vegie day!
