Question:My daughter in North Queensland has Ross River fever. Please tell me about this disease.
Answer:Ross River fever is an infection carried from one person to another by mosquitoes. It is found throughout northern Australia, and as far South as Brisbane. It is caused by an organism that is a primitive form of bacteria. Antibiotics do not ease the disease, and often the person suffers muscular aches and pains, swollen glands, poor appetite, nausea and flu-like symptoms for many weeks or months. There is no way to prevent the spread of the disease except for control of mosquitoes, and treatment generally involves prolonged rest and aspirin. It has no serious consequences, but may be debilitating for a long time, and may recur after recovery seems complete.
