Question:What can I take for a headache in pregnancy? Is aspirin safe?
Answer:Both aspirin and paracetamol are safe to take in pregnancy for headaches or other minor pains, but aspirin should be avoided in the last few weeks of pregnancy as it may cause minor problems with bleeding during the delivery and jaundice in the baby if taken at this late stage. As a general rule, no woman should take any medication during pregnancy unless she checks with her doctor first. The most dangerous period is the first twelve weeks after conception, when all the vital organs are forming and joining. After 12 weeks, there is no new development, and the perfectly formed miniature human spends the next six months growing to a size suitable for delivery. Many medications are safe in pregnancy, and should be used to treat the symptoms and diseases that develop, but only aftet being carefully checked by your doctor.
